New facts about cholesterol

I have had several clients who struggle with high cholesterol numbers.   Recent statistics are showing that we need to dig deeper into what the numbers actually mean.  According to the article I posted below, in 2009 “75 percent of patients hospitalized for a heart attack had cholesterol levels that would indicate they weren’t at high risk for a cardiovascular event based on current national cholesterol guidelines.”

Make sure you have requested an ‘advanced lipid profile’ from your doctor, especially if your numbers are high.  Traditionally cholesterol below 200 is ideal and the higher the HDL the better, but advanced screening methods are showing we need to look at more than just these numbers, and that is where the advanced lipid profile can help us.  So before you agree to start popping those pills, read this article, there is more we need to understand.
